Ode to the Weight of Knowledge

My backpack is SO heavy this semester. This is because I have to go to Spanish everyday of the school week with my textbook. Though I am not so happy about that, I am doing my best to keep packing my backpack from taking up any of my precious time. This is how I stay efficient even between homework assignments:

1. Get home from class and try to start homework right away.

2. Decide what class to work on and pull my supplies from my backpack or shelf.

3. Once finished with that subject, I put everything back, either into my backpack or on my shelf. That way I am slowly packing my backpack as I work. Since I will have to move my spanish workbook and spiral off my desk anyway, I just put them back in my backpack instead of moving them to the floor and having to move them to my backpack later.

4. Get distracted by JT lying on the floor and photograph her as she fits herself into the linen cupboard. ß(I called JT from another room to ask how to spell this)

5. Return to homework a little while later, after helping make dinner and eating delicious meatball subs with broccoli. :D (great job SH and JS!)

6. Continue working and shifting things until all my homework for the next day is finished and my backpack is ready for class the next day. This means the stuff I don't need is neatly out of the way and in its proper place.

7. Wake up the next morning with just enough time to get ready; snag my bag, my coat, and a fiber bar; and run out the door.

Advice on First Day Seating

1. Get there about 5 min before class starts—so not all the seats are taken but a good number of people are there
2. Pick the area of the room you want—front row, back row, somewhere in the middle, by the door, whatever strikes your fancy, just choose the part of the room that will make you the most happy
3. Sit next to the cutest boy/girl in that area- just scan the area you have chosen and instead of sitting a seat away from everyone else, sit right next to the cutest person there. They may think its a bit off, but they will have forgotten all about it once the class fills up.
4. Talk to them!- Once you sit and set all your stuff down, casually ask the cutie you sat next to how they are doing or something of that nature. Maybe ask why they are in the class, their major/year/favorite color. Plenty of easy introduction conversation questions. People love to talk about themselves.
5. Explain yourself if necessary-  I usually follow that up by telling them that I hate classes that are all quiet on the first day, so I always talk to the people around me.

It is always best of have at least one person in each of your classes' phone number or email address. Then if you miss a day and need info on homework or a quiz the next class, you have someone to ask. (this is a great trick for getting that cutie's number) text them after class a few days later commenting on how crazy/cool/hard/fun the class is.

What are your goals for the first day of class?

Lets start off Random

I thought as my first advice post I would make it totally random tips I have picked up to reflect the total randomness that is my life.
1. Go to class—I know you don’t believe me, but really, that’s like 50 pts toward your average. Teachers give out tips on what will be on the test, lecture notes are always asked about on tests, and lots of zeros on pop quizzes can kill your average.
2. Use a swimsuit to get deodorant off clothes—you put on a black shirt and then realize you got some white deodorant marks on it? Pull out your swimsuit and rub it on it. Presto!!
3. Buy gas a few days before the weekend you go home—They always jack up the prices for the weekend, so get it while its cheap in the middle or beginning of the week. Check prices in your area at Gasbuddy.com.
4. Try not to take yourself too seriously—When I get overwhelmed and upset, just look at the big picture. You are so blessed to get to go to college and get your education. (which is the gateway to success) Remember all the things you are good at and that you love when everything seems to be falling apart. (I’ll post a whole post about this later)
