You know you're in College when...sday

You know you're in college when you spend all your
food money on cute spring dresses
and then have to pay for a sonic shake in dimes and nickels.
I couldn't use quarters, I need those
for laundry. :P

Curious for some tips on doing laundry in commumity washers? Trying to pinch pennies? How about saving on water?

You know your in college Wen...sday

You go home for break and refuse to go to the movie theater in your area because there isn't a student discount that gets you a ticket for $5. Paying between $8 and $12 is just outrageous!

Are you cheap when it comes to certain purchases? What do you do for fun with your time at home?

The Questions of Textbooks

What are you planning on doing with your left over textbooks? Lending or selling them to a friend? Selling them back to the book store? Giving them to the hobo on your corner in hopes of him learning something? Sending them back to Chegg because you rented them? How about getting them for almost the same price as you bought them for because you bought them used?

I always sell my books on Amazon as opposed to using the bookstore on campus or renting them. You won't be able to sell a textbook and the same day use the money for groceries, like my roommates sometimes do at the end of the year. But you will end up getting more money for your extra effort and time put in. I would rather drive the post office to send a book and receive $75 bucks for it then sell it at the bookstore for $37. It is really easy to do too, just create an Amazon.com account and look up a textbook to buy. Then on the side bar of the page it will say, “Do you have this book to sell?” Click that and just follow the instructions to create a seller’s account and Whalah! Now you can make your money back. Amazon takes a small amount from the money earned for itself and you have to pay for shipping, so I try to take that into account when I’m deciding on my price. So when you get done with your finals and you never want to see your Psychological Statistics book again, don't burn it. Make some money!!

Over the break I will probably be buying my books for the new semester off amazon as well, because most of the reviews are reliable, they get to me in a timely manner, and its cheap to buy used!

How do you get your textbooks each semester? What do you when you no longer need them?

Random Tip of the Day

You can refill your gallon of water for a quarter! If you dislike the faucet water where you go to school like me. You may have started buying bottled water. This isn't super expensive, but the empty bottles fill up the room fast and it makes me feel a bit wasteful. So once I got one of those refillable, metal water bottles my room mate and I started buying water by the gallon. Which is cheaper then by the bottle we figured. (Never pay more then a dollar for a gallon of water) But then you still have to get rid of these empty gallons of water and buy more. BUT WAIT! If you go to one of those water stations that they have outside of grocery stores. You can put in a quarter and get a whole gallon of water refilled. Its pretty magical.

Hope everyone is having a productive last week of class!

How to Survive Community Washing Machines

An the joyous topic of don't your own laundry in community washers that take quarters. If you have moved out of this phase in your life, congrats. To those of you who haven't, I'm right here with ya. And with a few tidbits I have gathered.
  • Soda machines will take dimes and nickels, but when you punch the return your change button, it will usually give you it back in quarters (same with a dollar)
  • The dryers hold more then the washers, so if you need to do 2 washer loads, you can put all of it in a dryer
  • Make SURE you clean the lint thing in the dryer
  • My mom got me these two in one washer sheets, its washer soap and then you put it in the dryer with the clothes and it’s a dryer sheet, WAAAY better then hauling a jug of detergent with the two tons of clothes you have dirtied in the month its been since you did laundry
  • The more underwear you have, the longer you can go between washes, just putting that out there.
  • Always check your pockets before doing laundry. Many a good phone/ipod/sheet of notes/drill charts have been lost to the waters of the washer.
How much do you love lugging your laundry to a room down the hall or street? Have any other tips for making this process less of a hassle?
